The purpose of the Gateway exams at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is to assure that you are mastering the integration process, part of the central subject of Calculus II.
The Gateway will contain 10 questions that require integration and no simplifications of the results are expected. You will be able to take it three times during the Labs. You will have an hour to finish the Gateway. You will not be allowed to use calculator or formula sheets for this test. You will need just a pen or pencil.
How do I pass the Gateway?
You have three opportunities to pass the gateway. To pass the Gateway you need to solve 80% of the questions in the test (you need credit for at least 8 out of the 10 questions given). To receive credit for the integration problems you have to use the integration techniques correctly.
How do I prepare for the Gateway?
First you need to master the basic integration techniques, the rules of integration with respect to operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication by a scalar, and composition (Fundamental Theorem of Calculus), and use of graph of the integrand to evaluate integrals.
Second you need to master the integration techniques: substitution, integration by parts, trigonometric substitution, and trigonometric integrals. A multiple use of methods is expected.

How do I check my answers?
- One good way to see if an anti-derivative is correct is to compute its derivative (below).
- You could also just Ask Wolfram Alpha something like “integral x*sin x+x^(3/2)”.
