Constitution for The Math Club at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
Article I. Name
-
- The name of this student organization shall be known as The Math Club at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Article II. Purpose and Goals

- Section I. Purpose
-
- The purpose shall be to promote mathematics as a career and provide scholastic support and a social environment for students.

- Section II. Goals
-
- The major goals shall be-
- to encourage mathematics as a career
- to offer scholastic support
- to provide a social environment.
Article III. Membership
-
- Section I. Eligibility
-
- Any member of the student body, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, or academic major, may apply for membership.

- Section II. Selection Process
-
- Application for membership will be open throughout the school year.

- Section III. Attendance
-
- Attendance at all meetings and organization events online participation is encouraged.

- Section IV. Removal from Club
-
- Any member or officer shall be removed if the individual displays inappropriate behavior as deemed by a quorum.
Article IV. Officers
-
- Section I. Requirements for Officers
- The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements
-
- must be a declared a mathematics major to become president or vice president
- be in good standing with the University
- be subject to removal from office by the organization and/or the organization’s official University advisor should the student fail to maintain the requirement as prescribed in the previous statement.

- Section II. Officers and Duties
-
- President – shall preside over any regular and executive meetings and online presence, coordinate group activities, and communicate with the officers and advisor on all matters.

- Vice President - shall assist the president and preside over meetings in the absence of the president.

- Secretary – shall record minutes at all business meetings, check attendance at functions, and receive and review excuses for absences.

- Treasurer – shall oversee monetary transactions including fund raising and social activities.

- Section III. Election Process
-
- Election shall be held by email during the month of April. Math Club members listed on the UCSO member list will vote for the officers. All potential officers must be current members in good standing (except in documentable extenuating circumstances) in order to be elected into office. A quorum must participate and a simple majority vote will win; newly elected officers shall assume responsibility at the following meeting.

- Section IV. Removal of an Officer

- Refer to Article III, Section IV; another election to fill the vacancy will be held immediately.
Article V. Advisor

- Section I. Appointment
-
- The advisor or co-advisors shall be appointed by the organization at the beginning of their term. This person must be a faculty or staff member of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

- Section II. Role
-
- The faculty or staff advisor shall advise the organiation as needed. The advisor sha lnot, however, speak for or represent in any way the voice of the organization without prior approval.

- Section III. Term
-
- The organization shall invite a faculty or staff member to serve on a yearly basis, subject to the organization's renewed invitation. There shall be no limit on the number of times that a faculty or staff advisor may be re-appointed to serve the organization. The faculty or staff advisor may at any time asked to be replaced by another faculty or staff member. In this case, the new faculty or staff advisor is subject to an invitation by the current organization's members. Choosing amongst more than one new faculty or staff advisor shall be done by voting.

- Section IV. Removal

- The organization may remove its advisor at any time with a simple majority vote of current membership. A new advisor will be sought following Section III above.
Article VI. Meetings

- Section I. Regular meetings
-
- Regular meetings will be announced and will be held at various times to maximize attendance. Outcomes will be posted at the Math Club website

- Section II. Quorum
-
- A quorum shall consist of seven members.

- Section III. Online Presence
-
- The club shall maintain an online presence supported by the Mathematics and Statistics Department.
Article VII. Finances
-
- Section I. Dues
-
- No dues will be required from any member. Any funds needed by the club will be raised by the membership.

- Section II. Monetary Transactions
-
- Upon receiving any type of monetary compensation the treasurer shall deposit the funds within seventy-two hours.

- "Section III. Disbursement of Funds on Dissolution
-
- If the organization dissolves and remains in active for more than two years, disposed monies will be deposited with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The Department must return the funds to the club on its reorganization.
Article VIII. Amendments and Revision

- Section I.

- This constitution may be amended at any time by a two-thirds vote of the Active membership, subject to the approval of the Director of Student Life.
Amendment I - In the event of a tie one votes.

- In the event of a tie, the current officers will be the tie breakers. If the officers' votes end in a tie, the offficers will draw straws or the like to eliminate one officer from the vote in order to break the tie.
